ORKUN INDERE – FULMER HOUSE FARM, A BARN CONVERSION DESIGN

SBID International Design Award Finalist, Orkun Indere, a London based interior designer, discusses his move from architect to designer and his beautiful barn conversion project – Fulmer House Farm.

Road to interiors…

My background is actually architecture which I studied in Istanbul but I fell in love with interiors and the level of interaction with clients that it provided. I’ve now been a designer for over 15 years, working mainly on residential projects.

Fulmer House Farm – a 4000 sq ft barn conversion in Buckinghamshire

The barn itself was a huge inspiration to me, I fell in love with the precast concrete structure. The first idea was to expose the concrete beams which lead to the striking “industrial” look which we combined with contemporary touches. I worked very closely with the client during the process. So many plan layouts for the interiors were considered, especially for the bathrooms and kitchen. The best part of a long-lasting project is that you have enough time to visualise what you really want and examine it on CGI’s, mood boards and material samples. We ordered so many material and paint samples to ensure the final choices were perfect for the mood and light of the barn.

We were absolutely thrilled when this project was shortlisted for the SBID Awards 2021 in the category of “Residential House Under £1M”. I am very proud to be recognised by one of UK’s leading British professional member organisation for interior designers. Designers are mainly lone warriors so it’s great that SBID are able to promote a studio’s work in this way.

One of my many favourite rooms at Fulmer House Farm is the kitchen, which of course includes the Pure White Lines Parisian globes. I remember passing by your Hackney Road shop many years ago and seeing your lighting which immediately grabbed my attention. I had them in mind for projects ever since and fortunately my client also fell in love with them. They complement the teal brickwork perfectly.

What’s next…

I’m working on two Chelsea flat refurbishment projects and a full house renovation in Twickenham, along with an ongoing full house renovation in Hertfordshire.

Favourite Pure White Lines pieces…

Quite a few! The Moscow chandelier, your beautiful butterfly domes, Safari armchairs, the exquisite Venice Murano chandelier, Boucle McQueen Armchair and your railway mirrors!
