The Lore Group are specialists in creating design-led hotels with heart. We spoke to Jacu Strauss, their Design Director to learn more about the transformation of their latest opening – One Hundred Shoreditch.
About Lore Group
We currently have five hotels in our portfolio, Sea Containers and One Hundred Shoreditch in London, Riggs and Lyle, both in Washington DC and Pulitzer in Amsterdam, as well as other international projects. Each hotel has been designed with the personality of the property and district in mind, ensuring all our hotels have a very unique feel but the same level of comfort and service.
One Hundred Shoreditch
Previously the Ace Hotel, One Hundred Shoreditch opened in March this year. We like to think of it as a hotel for the grown-up Shoreditch. We have a wide range of restaurants and bars, including Goddard & Gibbs seafood restaurant and the Palm Springs inspired rooftop and terrace, and over 250 bedrooms.
How did the location and pre-existing features influence the interiors?
We wanted to work with elements of the previous design, embracing a sustainable approach by keeping some features and enhancing them to elevate the design and create a new guest experience. It was important to us to appeal to both locals and visitors to the area.
How would you say the style of your other London hotel, Sea Containers differs?
Our hotel designs aren’t driven by trends which helps each location have its own distinct look and feel. What does bind them are the playful and unexpected design details.
You have some amazing art work in your hotels, how do you select these?
I actually created many pieces of abstract art for the public areas and bedrooms myself. We also have some beautiful installations including a totem-style piece by Jan Hendzel in the lobby and a red paper leaf installation from the Mio Gallery above the Lobby bar. There’s also the amazing piece in the Goddard & Gibbs restaurant, a balancing rock sculpture in a vibrant yellow evoking seaside memories.
When designing a hotel room, what pieces are essential to make it a memorable stay?
Excellent bedding and well-designed bedrooms are a must. For One Hundred Shoreditch we wanted a neutral, calming colour palette with pops of colour provided by the art work, all to help our clients retreat and unwind from busy city life and the buzz of our bars and restaurants.

What’s next for Lore Group?
